Vulcan shuttle “Surak” detaches from its warp sled, docks with USS Enterprise gifs, Star Trek: The Motion Picture
So I was just perusing the App Store when I came across a game called Galaxy Fleet Wars (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/galaxy-fleet-wars/id901291961). The guy totally ripped his icon off! It’s clearly a Sovereign-class starship, tinted blue, with extra nacelles added to the sides. Shameful, but hey, at least it’s a creative repurposing of the Enterprise-E!
Q:Ok I really need to express how poirly made Federation ships seem to be because like one hit from an enemy vessel and like everyone's computers are exploding lol. Also in the Dominion War everyone else sent troops into combat w/ armor of some sort
Yeah, if you want more realistic depictions of war-time, it’s Battlestar Galactica you want.
Star Trek: Armada ships
I designed this ship on my own, and I used inspiration from the Enterprises (nacelles, saucer angularity, cut-out thingies on the pylons, deflector dish), as well as the obvious Oberth-type secondary hull, and Prometheus-inspired triple separation. I’m not really sure what I should call it, so I think I’ll call it the Shakero Class, a play on my last name.
Interesting! Thanks for submitting!
I could point-out that if the saucer had gone to full impulse immediately after the separation was complete, it would have gotten well clear of the planet before the explosion
Please keep in mind that this was an emergency saucer separation completed as fast as possible. The saucer section has no warp core, so the primary power sources are several fusion cores now. The EPS system most likely took some damage due to the fight and they still need at least some shields for navigational purposes.
Following this, it is highly possible, that “full impulse”, generally quoted as 1/4 of the speed of light, cannot be achieved. They could simply do not have had the power.
Riker orders Diana for “Full impulse once we’re clear”. Directly after the saucer separation one can see them accelerating rapidly. But a Galaxy class saucer section is quite heavy and needs some time to achieve full speed even with inertial dampeners.
Also it’s highly plausible that there should be some space between the two sections before the saucer section fully accelerates. You also don’t want to stand behind a fighter jet at launch, so why would that be good with a warp core breach waiting to happen behind you?
Let’s say they achieve around 1/6 speed of light overall and have 15 to 25 seconds from seperation to detonation. In this timeframe they can travel around 7.5*10^5 to 12.5*10^5 km, which is around two to three times the distance between earth and our moon.
These are pretty vague assumptions, but as far I see it, Diana flew that thing brilliantly and got as far as they could in that short time.
That’s some great math and all, but impulse engines aren’t powered by the warp core (except under special circumstances). The saucer impulse engines should have had full power. I acknowledge that the delay was not Deanna’s fault, but rather the animators taking a few extra seconds on-screen to show the saucer moving off. But seriously, it should have been able to zip out of there at .25c and been well clear of the detonation.
